Talking about college with my dad?

Im a junior in high school and im thinking about college. i told my parents (who are divorced) that i want to go to University of Houston. my mom is cool with it but my dad is totally against it. he wants me to stay in Dallas and go to SMU (where he studies at). i feel that he just wants me to stay here so he can still control my life when im out the house. i also feel that he wants me to fulfill his dreams and not my own. he says that i just want to do my own thing when and wherever i want to do it and not have anyone tell me right from wrong, but im not like. how can i tell my dad that college is my choice in a respectful manner?
